If you’re an entrepreneur looking to build an online brand, you’ll have heard of SEO. But what exactly is it – and why do you need it for your business?
What is SEO?
Simply put, SEO – or Search Engine Optimisation – means optimising your website’s content so that those searching Google (or another search engine) can find the information they’re looking for.
So – how does it work? Google crawls web pages to determine which content is the most valuable for the reader, and ranks each page in search results accordingly.
This is done to a variety of criteria. There are technical elements to SEO – keyword research and search volumes, formatting of page headers and tags, meta descriptions, link building [LINK TO BLOG 2] – as well as more creative elements: does the content on your site read well? Is it useful for a reader looking to learn more about a topic? Is it original and unique?
